The whole thing feels like a dark, white trash meditation on the concept of nature vs nurture and the cycles of abuse. It's not elegant, but I think it’s powerful in a primal way. Zombie tried something radically different and auteur-ish with a well-established series, knowing the consequences. I very rebelliously love this Frankenstein's monster of a film.
So if you give Sam Levinson a bad review...he will cast a black actor to play himself? in a movie made to roast you? under the false pretense that you gave him a GLOWING review? in which you called him tour de force? but for all the wrong racial-political reasons?
As a movie & nothing more, I give it a 3 out of 5
As a look into Sam Levinson’s psyche, I give it a “yikes” out of “you better hope Spike Lee never sees this”
