The whole thing feels like a dark, white trash meditation on the concept of nature vs nurture and the cycles of abuse. It's not elegant, but I think it’s powerful in a primal way. Zombie tried something radically different and auteur-ish with a well-established series, knowing the consequences. I very rebelliously love this Frankenstein's monster of a film.
