  • Rabid

It's taken me close to a week to put my thoughts to paper after witnessing the world premiere of RABID in front of a packed out IMAX screen at Frightfest. The atmosphere at Frightfest is always amongst the best, it contains excited genre film fans who are looking to get the next kick out of something spooky, intense, gruesome or brilliant (sometimes all 4) and when the turn came for RABID, atmosphere was at fever pitch. The whole audience was…

    One Cut of the Dead

Every so often a film hits you right in the nose and demands your attention, focus and wants to be the center of your everything. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD is one such film.

I don’t know anything about the behind the camera or crew work, I am simply a film fan who enjoys what is front of me, but that does not mean I can’t appreciate what goes on behind the scenes. OCOTD is like a sneak peek into…

Well I have now been a dad for just over 5 weeks and while I have struggled on the movie front, I have more than made up for it with as much coffee as one could possibly drink. It's not been an easy ride, my beautiful daughter, Niamh, had some complications in the first couple of weeks but I am relieved to share all is now positive, there have been other issues afoot too but I'm still smiling and loving…

  • Detour

Why don’t I watch more films from the forties? I seem to relish them when they are in front of me but I never go seeking them out. In DETOUR we have an excellent tale of love, lust, crime and betrayal all served cold in a dark room. Performances are splendid and story is paramount, not a second went by that I didn’t feel completely invested in its heavy world or cutting dialogue. Paving the way for me to have a noir 2021 perhaps as its short and deathly sweet kiss has left me absorbed and ready for more.

    Anna and the Apocalypse

I love horror and I have a soft spot for musicals so when I heard about this film I was all sorts of intrigued. For some reason, I was expecting something fairly average and ended up with a gourmet meal. This is the quintessential genre Christmas film.

ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE is beautiful to look at, wonderful characters and sets and is an extreme comfort on the eye but that is only the beginning. This film is a musical so…

    Summer of 84

SUMMER OF 84 is the film the 2017 version of IT should have been between the Pennywise sections. The kids are brilliant in this, not over the top or over-dramatized, they feel entirely real and mischievous. They get comedy gold lines and enough solid interactions to make you feel fully invested in their journeys.

The film itself feels like the STRANGER THINGS have moved into THE ‘BURBS with wonderful characters that haven’t felt so likeable since TURBO KID. It is…
