Corey Kitchen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow that might just be the most retarded first 5 minutes to a film I have ever seen.
Army Of The Dead takes us to a zombie filled Las Vegas where a group of mercenaries are hired to pull off a casino heist in the heart of Vegas.
The story is a really fun idea and was the one part of the film I found quite clever, but the execution is pretty poor. There is so much dumb shit and scenes that are way too long or just don’t need to be included in the first place. I thought being a Zack Snyder movie the long run time would be because of slow motion shots but the film ended up having very little Zack Snyder flare, it’s very hard to recognise this as one of his own which for me was quite disappointing.
The world is cool though I think the zombies are quite interesting despite the fact their leader is doing very poor Batman cosplay. A couple characters I liked but the rest were annoying for the most part. The action is pretty great though every he’s so shot is so satisfying and the performances all round from the zombies are amazing. The costume and make up is quite astounding as well.
Overall I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it because it was fun film when you don’t take it seriously, but with the good premise and Zack Snyder I definitely was expecting something better.
