Cannibal Holocaust

Cannibal Holocaust

Several times, I absolutely couldn't believe my eyes while watching the horrendous events occuring on "Cannibal Holocaust"; it's that disturbing and horrifying. I have never come close to vomitting while watching a movie before (well, I did during "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre", but that was because I was already sick anyway and not because I couldn't stomach the movie).

"Cannibal Holocaust" with its unnecessary sexual, violent, predatory exploitation was something entirely different. Its reputation preceeds it by now to the extent that almost everyone knows at least why it's so infamous, and it appears that most people either hate or love it - i.e. they have a pretty strong opinion about it. I can kind of see the sides of both kind of reviews, as "Cannibal Holocaust" works well as an uncovering of media sensation, and above all, we have an absolutely marvelous soundtrack to accompany the images.

In the end, you should only go into this film knowing what to expect, which means that you have to expect a lot of animal killings and cannibalism, and you will receive more of that than you expected no matter how much you expected. In spite of its (few) positive aspects and in spite of how relevant this movie may have been, how realistic even (I mean, it's not that difficult to imagine that every single part of this movie could actually have happened), I just couldn't help but hate the experience.
