Halfway through another experience with Kaufman’s cacophonous cries about existentialism and relationships with himself and others around him, I found myself wondering if maybe he’s at his best when another director is involved. This allows for some sort of restraint, so that films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Adaptation can flow through to the viewer instead of bombarding their brain with boundless ideas. I think that’s what makes him so great though. So by the latter half of…

A journey through the perverse, where a car crash is cum-worthy and romance is lost amongst the burning fumes and fusion of glass, blood, and metal. It’s a titillating experience but maybe just as dangerous as Cronenberg himself suggests. If we let our feelings of lust and desire take complete control of the wheel then how long until we succumb to only this high? How far will we go to sustain this? How long until we are just flesh vehicles…

Might be a certain point where climbing docs get the same, but I don’t think The Alpinist is one of those. Really beyond remarkable stuff about Marc-André Leclerc, who made ascends that no human has ever done and most would not even think to attempt. Kicking myself for missing this in theaters.

A guy can relate to films where people are just trying to figure life out, especially one’s exploring the chaos of your early 20’s and projecting impossible desires onto people. So in that sense, there’s a lot of moments to love, but it really has some painfully awkward moments in the mission to be sincere. Some of it due to both Cooper Raiff’s performance and writing, but it’s hard to deny Dakota Johnson’s electricity, which puts me in the same…

As haunting as it is beautiful and as strange as it is captivating. A hell of a gruesome debut to leave you spellbound, with a creative angle that blends folk-horror with a moving portrait about both the pain and joys of humanity. It’s as if even in the darkest places, there’s a brighter light. Through the shape-shifting character and fine tuned practical effects, we embark on a journey through her experiences, sweeping us away into quick cuts of beautiful landscapes…

It should be no surprise Kogonada’s moniker was inspired by the name of Ozu’s screenwriter Kogo Noda. After Yang imbues that light and simple, yet all-powerful story of films like Tokyo Story and Late Spring, but with a sci-fi flair and a wonderful group of artists at the helm of the soundtrack. Mitski performs a rendition of Glide by Lily Chou-Chou and the hands of Bach, Aska Matsumiya (Skate Kitchen, I’m Your Woman), and the great mellowing piano keys on the theme from…
