Without a doubt the most topical and controversial movie you'll see in years, 'The Hunt' is sure to piss off conservatives and liberals alike with its blunt take on online trolling, hypocrisy, fake news, conspiracy theories and the straight up hunting of humans as sport, simply because they don't agree with your political or ideological views. Beyond that, I'm surprised to say that the film was refreshingly fun, something akin to a late 90s/early 2000s film, those crisp 90 minute installments that hit a particular sweet spot in their respective genre while obviously not setting out to win any awards.
Betty Gilpin was a riot in this, if not a bit tough to make out at times in her dialogue and stories, but her delivery and dedication really shone through. The rest of the cast is pretty wasted, appearing in bit parts before meeting their expected demise, and I legitimately forgot about Hillary Swank as a human being until this film - nice to see her career really taking off further after that Oscar win years back. If you're going into this one simply looking to be offended or mad at the subject matter, don't waste your time. If you're looking to detach from reality while simultaneously having it tossed back in your face, alongside some fun fights and a few cutting one liners and shocking moments of violence, give it a go.
