2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey ★★★★½

Grade: 94%

2001: A Space Odyssey is often regarded as one of the best films of all-time and going in I prepared myself for an experience because I had heard it would be unlike anything else I would’ve ever seen, but this isn’t a film you can prepare for, at all. I still don’t completely have a solid idea or theory about what I just witnessed but I can definitely say I was in awe for pretty much the entire runtime. It’s split into distinct sections that almost feel like they have nothing to do with each other and I’m still wrapping my head around what everything could mean. It’s shocking this is from 1968, this is better visually than most current films let alone one that’s  over fifty years old. It’s stunning, the shots of space are incredible and nothing looks fake, the shots at the beginning are also very well done considering what other films were doing at the time. On a rewatch I can definitely see this being even higher-rated for me but after my first watch, although I definitely loved it, I can’t quite give it the five star treatment just yet. 2001: A Space Odyssey deserves its spot as a classic and it’s one that I would be very intrigued to revisit, maybe I would pick up on more.
