This movie is moreso a COVID movie than anything else, isn't it. Long were the days where we can just get a van, go wherever we want, connect with strangers and embrace your life, a lifestyle, and yourself.

We be the bitches of the badlands.

Cinematographer Joshua James Richards has a special talent with the camera. The lighting and camera movement reminds me a lot of Emmanuel Lubezki. It's not an imitation of Lubezki either, just a good person to…

    SPIKE LEE
    Introduction

Spike Lee is a director I had rarely seen before this year. But he has been one of the most prolific filmmakers in the last 30 years. With Da 5 Bloods releasing on Netflix earlier this year, I decided I wanted to visit Spike to truly see the filmmaker he is, and what made him one of the most prolific and memorable craftsmen of his time. Let me tell you, he has earned it.

Would my rating be higher if I had movie theater popcorn, a Dr Pepper, and a comfier seat? Maybe.

I don't know what you guys are on but this shit was SCARY. Do I have problems with the movie? Sure. Heading into the last act felt rushed, the exposition dump in the middle was an entirely different movie and also illogical, the Frenchie character, snakes, and the father's backstory about the exorcism was pretty unnecessary. But the visuals, the graveyard scenes (anything with the bells), the way they built tension, the zombie-like nature of the nun scares; this is a successful Conjuring spin-off.

There is a deep political subtext in this movie as it pertains to the Paul character (played by the wonderful Delroy Lindo), the Vietnamese perspective of the war, the Norman character (played by a great Chadwick Boseman), and the archival footage dispersed throughout this film. What I want to talk about is the frequent use of Marvin Gaye's songs from his album What's Going On.

You see, war is not the answer…

    - I watched a ton of movies.
    - I got really into Rocket League.
    - I played some Quiplash with friends on Zoom with some drinks.
    - I played a lot of Pokemon Emerald.
    - I gained some beer weight.

How have you guys coped with being inside?
