    Carpenter managed to take the same basic premise - an alien who takes the shape of humans - and make two separate movies that each reflect universal truths of humanity. The Thing shows humans at their worst: paranoid, terrified and violent. Starman too shows this side of humanity, but juxtaposes it with the love and compassion that makes us who we are.

    Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges are both great of course, and I can't wait to see rewatch this.

    Kurt Russell is so great in this, and I know that he is a star so they had to sell it on him - hence the poster with him towering over everything. The joke of course is that he's an all American action hero who is in the wrong movie, but why didn't Dennis Dun have a better career? He's has such great chemistry with Russell and is really fun.     I love how the pro-war hero of our story is appalled that the aliens would try to colonize our planet - Vietnam was going on dude, get off your high horse. Also, what's with the hate for the "frog-men?" They were just trying to do their jobs, and they seem like a valuable asset for any submarine.

    Great model work, really fun alien monster, good special effects and sets. I had a lot of fun with this one.
