Arguably Kubricks masterpiece. A stunningly realistic depiction of space travel with amazing attention to detail, and one of the greatest and most intimidating villains ever put to film in the computer HAL. There are moments in this movie where you are just meant to be in awe of the scenery unfolding in front of you, and while that has lost its appeal slightly since the 60's, it's still a marvel to imagine how they did it back then. The ending is.... interesting to say the least and I don't love it, but for the film overall and what it means/meant to the moviemakers who came after it cement it as a classic film that should be seen at least once to fully appreciate it.
