Whats surprises me about Tarkovsky is his willingness to show such emotional and fragile men humiliate themselves for their art or religion. To watch a Tarkovsky film is to subject yourself to an overtly religious artist’s existential and philosophical anguish as he attempts to channel his emotions and understanding of life through the medium he knows best.

A love letter to youth, first love, and friendship. Such a cute film. Cooper Hoffman is so charismatic and charming it’s actually unbelievable that this was his debut, but then again, he’s a Hoffman sooo. Likewise, Alana Haim has a screen presence that is just so compelling, it’s almost impossible not to fall in love with her. Just an overall warm and pleasant film. PTA‘s most endearing work to date, even more so than PDL.
If only this came out when I was 15. This one’s definitely gonna inspire the kids.
