Sorry to do this again but I finished uni this week and am looking for film-based jobs. On set or in a writer’s room would be amazing, but realistically I’d like to review films for some kind of entertainment publication. I have work experience, a degree in Film and Screenwriting, scripts, portfolios, blogs, reviews, cover letters and CV’s available to anyone who wants to see them (directing a few short films this year too so will have them available soon).…

    “Things work out”

I remember reading Eli Hayes’ review of Marriage Story and in it he wrote a powerful description about how once in a blue moon, a movie will come out at just the right time with all the right themes that feels as though it was hand-crafted just for you. Beautiful though his words were, I didn’t truly know what they meant until today.

I was gonna write a pretentious analogy about how being in your 20’s can…

So I’ve gone the last few years just fully assuming that Warrior was a Letterboxd favourite, but I’ve just rewatched it and gone to look at the ratings and reviews for it, only to find 83k logged views?

I don’t want to say too much about this, other than it’s one of Hardy’s best performances, and in my opinion he completely disappears. As he plays a broken man, his posture and body language just do so much of the work…

Frankly the story didn’t interest me in the slightest, but it was cool to see Sherlock-ish things taking place in the original setting of the late 19th century, after becoming so used to the modernity of the fantastic BBC show.

Millie Bobby Brown and the rest of the cast held my attention, but it just all felt a bit... inconsequential? Though I completely understand that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, so the fluffiness of it all will be…

    The Lighthouse

Just want to express my sadness at how overlooked this film has been in terms of Academy Awards recognition.

I know some films like Uncut Gems, Midsommar and The Farewell didn’t get a single nomination - which I also think is ridiculous - but I really think The Lighthouse deserves to be competing in at least 6 major categories (score, cinematography, actor, supporting actor, director and picture). Possibly even production design, editing and a couple of the smaller sound awards too.…

    YouTube review

First let me say this: if you hate everything about this movie, I completely understand, and if you love everything about this movie, I get that too. It’s a mixed bag for sure, but I have to say I lean more towards loving it than hating it.

The action sequences are well-helmed and that general sense of otherworldly adventure is ever-present. Rey and Kylo’s will-they-won’t-they dynamic is interesting as always and Adam Driver gives a great performance with the…
