Daniel Cruse’s review published on Letterboxd:
I watched this a few days ago but I’ve had an extremely busy weekend AND I’ve been very sick so I didn’t get around to reviewing it.
I liked this film a lot, Tilda Swinton gives a fantastic performance which is what I always expect from her. Ezra Miller is great as the titular Kevin and John C. Reilly does good work in his supporting role. This is the first time I’ve seen Tilda playing a relatively normal character and she sold it, she always fully sinks into her roles and she’s becoming one of my favorite working actors.
Lynne Ramsey’s direction is great here too, I was so blown away by You Were Never Really Here, one of my favorites of last year, and that’s how this movie ended up on my list in the first place. It was eerie and smartly crafted and visually interesting.
I was left wanting a little more with this film, especially more interactions between Tilda and Ezra, but it was a really engaging and disturbing film and one I definitely don’t regret watching.
