The Convergence of Father and Son
I was quite sceptical coming into Brandon's true foray into the body horror genre, considering the immeasurable reputation of his father in the field. But upon finally seeing the high concept, sci-fi body-horror genius of Possessor you would never tell that he had some gigantic shoes to fill. He walks into his intelligent and original sophomore feature with a steady and undeniable confidence.
Dark, intelligent and filled with an unforgivingly gorgeous gore, Possessor is quite honestly fantastic. It's meld of practical and CG is wonderful, most specifically in the 'jump' sequence. Which has some of the most transcendentally trippy visuals I've seen since Twin Peaks The Return.
It's very easily one of my favourites of the year, and it's yet another terrific addition to the echelon of modern horror classics.
Pull me out.
