It took me a long time to finally watch this movie, mostly because I was terrified it wasn't going to be the emotional masterpiece the trailers led me to believe it was. Turns out, it was exactly what I needed it to be. The movie is about family, legacy, and dreams. It's about loving a city, a situation, even when it doesn't seem to love you back. Powerful, powerful, powerful. As we often say, there is no such thing as a perfect film, at least not on a technical level. But the way Spike Lee effortlessly as well as flawlessly radiates power through his filmmaking is consistently astounding and breathtaking to me. This movie radiates power, passion, rage, and timelessness. So many perspectives were explored, so much history uncovered, and so many beautiful moments to make this film truly unique and (I'll say it again) powerful. A must-watch and the most important film of 2020, by far.

Are you kidding me? This is the film that led to those "why isn't Pixar as good" think pieces? It's more contained and smaller-scale than the average Pixar film, but that only made the story seem more personal in the exact same way Soul did. This film still shines with every bit of Pixar magic that I hoped it would and is another strong entrant into Pixar's repertoire.

Also the music? Some of Pixar's best.
