Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★½

sterling proof that pure self-indulgence isn't always a bad thing. clearly the palpable tension that came with its first viewing isn't quite there upon rewatch, but that just lets me settle into the world it so thoroughly recreates. i'm wary of some of the messages it sends, but I'll leave that for others to chew on. if i were still trying with all my might to be a postmodern hippie, i like to think i'd be rewatching after smoking dipped cigarettes on the regular

nerd stuff that I particularly appreciated this go-round:
-timothy olyphant (I'm making my way through Deadwood nowadays)
-the episodes of Lancer and FBI with Rick in them actually existing in our timeline (with his characters portrayed by Joe Don Baker and Burt Reynolds, respectively)
-dakota fanning as squeaky fromme (I'd watch a spinoff involving her and gerald ford in the 70s)
-a recurring hard-on for sergio corbucci throughout
-maya hawke (holy shit there's a bbc miniseries of little women from '17 where she plays jo march?!?)
-dicaprio looking like the spitting image of Navajo Joe on a bender after the time jump

films being referred to that may be a bit of a stretch, but I believe in:
-the airport corridor scene in Point Blank
-the climax music made me think of Manhunter
