A Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box

    ★★★

It’s impressive just how much the 2nd half of this movie is better than the 1st. Almost feels like 2 different movies. I must say I didn’t like it at first but slowly it won me over by focusing on the right characters and Stephen Chow doing Stephen Chow things.

It’s an outright mess, so watch only if you like messy movies. It’s in the veins of The Bride with White Hair, the Swordsman trilogy, and A Chinese Ghost Story

It’s impressive just how much the 1st half of this movie is better than the 2nd. Almost feels like 2 different movies. I must say I liked it at first but slowly it lost me by not focusing on the characters enough and less Stephen Chow doing Stephen Chow things.

It’s an outright mess, watch only if you like messy movies. It's in the same vein as part 1, pretty much, so go ahead knowing what to expect.

    The Relic

    ★★½

No wonder this book adaptation sucks, they removed the most interesting, complex, and intriguing character in the source material from the story! (Pendergast)

A crucial mistake, it turns out.

Love the book by the way, but this movie is really average.

    ★★★★

I enjoy movies that feature time travel shenanigans that don't make any sense, or break their own rules or continuity, because in these cases the time travel is just added for dramatic purposes (or the "rule of cool"), but once in a while it's so refreshing to watch a time travel story that actually works and adheres to proper time travel rules.

Reminds me of Primer in the sense that the time travel mechanics are respected. No holes in logic,…

    Police Story 3: Super Cop

    ★★★★½

That Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh never starred together again on-screen after Supercop is an outright tragedy.

Everything about these 2 together in this movie is, quite simply, absolute perfection.

And the rest is pretty damn awesome too.

    Terminator 2: Judgment Day

    ★★★★★

I know some people prefer the original, and while it's great, to me, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the perfect pure action movie. James Cameron is one of very few 80's and 90's American filmmakers who actually got how to shoot and edit action scenes.

This gets so much right it's hard to list all of its accomplishments. Constant sense of urgency and danger, scenario flipped on its head from the first one, relentless, balls to the wall action, gorgeous…
