The Trial of the Chicago 7

The Trial of the Chicago 7 ★★½

best picture marathon: film #5

“i’ve never been on trial for my thoughts before”

the biggest piece of oscar bait in the bunch, but i was expecting that all along. it has its moments of triumph when the music swells and i’m momentarily won over, but otherwise this is just too much courtroom and isn’t worth the runtime. sorkin scripts are usually overwhelming at times but this one is especially wordy and feels needlessly distracting, like we get it, you’re a screenwriter. and he clearly isn’t the strongest director which makes this uninteresting as a whole. i will say the actors do a pretty impressive job with the material given, but i just know that i’ll be forgetting about this the second the oscars are over
