    Disney's FastPass: A Complicated History

    ★★★

100-word review: A long-form video essay about the history of, and problems with, Disneyland's (virtual) queuing and FastPass systems on the one hand, a testament to the YouTube format's proximity to traditional, and professional documentary-making on the other; what makes one a 'real' film, and the other not? The lack of self-filmed material? I don't believe so. The result of Kevin Perjurer's exceptional effort here really blurs the lines further, and the fact that he manages to do so with a niche topic like this is all the more applaudable. Interesting, funny, surprising, and informative from start to finish.

Mill is a Hollywood producer who listens to screenwriters' pitches all day every day, deciding which select few will get made into movies. Mill begins receiving death threat postcards from an anonymous screenwriter he rejected. He determines disgruntled writer Kahane must be behind the postcards. Their confrontation turns deadly indeed, but not for Mill. After covering up the murder, Mill begins an affair with Kahane's girlfriend June, but he's still being sent postcards.

100-word review: Kinda exceeded expectations as I'm not much for vulgarity, foresaw loads, and thus predicted to not find it funny, but overall I did. Deadpool is 'throw everything at the wall and see what sticks' comedy; still, said wall ends up pretty besmirched as plenty does. There could've been more of attempt to diversify the style of comedy, because it's predominantly verbal. After the time-stop opening 'credits' scene, there aren't many memorable instances of visual or auditory comedy. Deadpool

An expedition guide leads a writer and a professor into the heart of a mysterious restricted area known as the Zone where there supposedly exists a room which grants a person's innermost desires.

"Say there's some antique pot in a museum. In its own time, it was a trash bin. But now it draws admiration for its simplicity of line and unique form. And everyone oohs and aahs over it. Suddenly, it turns out not to be an antique at…

    X-Men: Days of Future Past

100-word review: The best of the X-Men films (and one of the best superhero films in general) — a claim I dare to make before watching Deadpool — and basically my main motivation for re-marathoning the franchise again. Days of the Future Past combines a curious take on time-travel mechanics with a stricter focus on the series' best characters: Magneto, Professor X, Wolverine, Beast, and importantly, Mystique. 'Minor' mutants, such as Quicksilver (who's actually ridiculously overpowered), get to show off…

100-word review: Remember thinking this seemed fairly realistic back when I first saw it in '14 or something, lol — watching it now hits different, and goes to show how well Soderbergh and his team did their homework. The global scale, multiple storylines, ensemble cast, and nature of the subject matter demand something like a miniseries (I'd watch it) rather than this spry, shockingly unsentimental 106-minute film format; it's a little too realistic in how uncinematically anticlimactic the last half hour plays out. Nonetheless, I do appreciate the film's unwillingness to sacrifice science for drama, as well as the anti-anti-vaxx message.
