    Game of Death

Give an average 4 year-old a stack of magazines, a vat of glue to apply w/a spatula. Tell him/her to cut out a bunch of pics from each mag and glue as many on 1 sheet of paper as possible. Don't supervise. The result is this movie. A spectacular mess. And I love it!

  • The Black Ninja

    The Black Ninja

Malik Ali is a sleazy lawyer by day, a vigilante superhero by night. Crazy sound fx, bad fight choreography, terrible acting, worse writing, 80s sounding very specific theme song. So yeah, loved it.

  • Skyscraper

Or Die Hard with boobs. Copies the classic beat 4 beat + 2 random love scenes & a rape attempt. Instead of barefoot, Anna Nicole Smith goes sans bra for most of the final act which is...uh...a lot to take take in. So bad it's awesome!

  • Marriage Story

    Marriage Story

Should be called Divorce Story. It feels like one of those movies that's good overall with great performances that gets lots of award season love, but will be largely forgotten about in a few yrs.

  • Strong Island

    Strong Island

Oscar nommed documentary about a young Black man who was shot & killed in 1992 and how the justice system failed his family. Tough watch because the story is all too familiar. 2nd half focused a bit much on one sister's perspective, but still a good/important doc. FYI, that sister is now a man and made history by being the 1st openly trans person to receive an Oscar nomination.

  • The Perfection

    The Perfection

My 1st rewatch of the year (saw it a few mos. back). Wonderfully twisted tale of two gifted musicians. A bit of a slow burn, but it reels you in as it goes. Logan Browning and Allison Williams are great co-leads and the ending is um...perfection.

  • Child's Play

    Child's Play

Hate the new doll design cuz there's no way it could ever be thought of as anything but creepy & unsettling. That said, I still enjoyed it. The update on the story mostly works. Lots of contrivances to put Chucky into play but the balls to the wall attitude saves it. They throw everything at the wall & enough of it sticks to keep us from checking out. Then it gives us an absolute bonkers final act. Best part: it's all packed into just 90 minutes.

  • Bad Boys for Life

    Bad Boys for Life

The chemistry between Martin Lawrence & Will Smith is still golden. The story moves & the action is fun. It's a perfect fit for the franchise. Surprise surprise, I like 2 Michael Bay movies in a row (6 Underground was stupid but fun as hell).

  • Sweetheart

A girl trapped on a deserted island discovers there's a nocturnal, homicidal, monster also there. Definitely a metaphor for all the terrible things that women endure w/a msg about how they should be believed. Drags in spots, but overall a good watch.

  • In the Tall Grass

    In the Tall Grass

Curious, interesting for a while, but the payoff for all our wandering around this field feels like someone just got tired of writing and stopped rather than a satisfying conclusion.

  • Tall Girl

    Tall Girl

100% generic high school rom-com. I don't hate it, but there are ZERO surprises.
