Bad Education

Bad Education ★★★★½

Holy shit can Cory Finley make a movie.

In an alternate universe where I didn’t seek out Thoroughbreds or somehow didn’t love it as much as I do, it’s comforting to know that I would have become a fan of Finley either way.

Bad Education is a fantastic follow-up to the aforementioned social thriller, occupying what is becoming my go-to genre (true crime thriller) and showing us how good those can be. Using just 108 minutes to tell its story (I bring up runtime because honestly I could have done another hour of this) Bad Education sizzles and sparks for each second.

Hugh Jackman straight up murders the lead role of Frank Tassone. With charm, tight skin and a round stomach, Jackman takes on a real actor’s role here. I was worried Wolverine and T** G******* S****** would maybe cause him to lose his fastball, a concern that was stamped out at minute 5.

The rest of the cast is stellar as well. Especially Allison Janney. If Oscar qualifications are loosened this year (which they likely will be) I think she and Jackman are shoe ins.

When it comes to my personal enjoyment, it also doesn’t hurt to have a handful of actors from The Irishman on hand 🥰.
