only watched for chicco chiesa (not enough of him!) and the frankly enormous meme potential

eight episodes that are almost comical, in hindsight

Maribel's talent was having great curly hair no matter the circumstances, actually

I liked the characters and the family interactions, and the colours and the atmosphere were vivid and lively. Unfortunately, I found the songs (and the score as well, to a certain extent) to be both too much and absolutely forgettable when not mediocre – the only exception being abuelo's song.
A nice movie with a nice message, but it needed/deserved more development and depth.

god the sound design in this movie wrecked me,, a masterpiece

the acting is out of this world, the characters are all flawed but incredibly fascinating people, and the story has the kind of depth that tears your heart open with the simple shot of a man and a child drumming together on a metal slide, or with a subtle yet monumental change of perspective

happy 10-year anniversary to this masterpiece πŸ’™

I've had this poster up on my bedroom wall since the day I first saw this film on the big screen, and I never get tired of singing its praises – a decade later and it still holds up wonderfully.
J.J. Abrams's directing quirks and storytelling style match the Spielberg-esque tone so perfectly, as do Michael Giacchino's heartrending score and Larry Fong beautiful cinematography; and the neat sci-fi/conspiracy thriller plot envelops what substantially is a deep, emotional coming-of-age film about compassion and fatherhood and grief. (Oh, and cinema.)
