A film that perfectly blends a fantasy world with the brutal reality of the real world. The child performance at the center of the film is amazing. Ofelia is so innocent and has such a charming presence on screen. She’s a really good character and it’s so easy to root for her as she tries to escape her nightmarish reality for her fairy-tale world. Having all of these fantastical elements set during a war was brilliant and made for a very unique and engaging experience. And I’m glad that this film didn’t hold back in showing some awful stuff. The ending is so sad, but I like how it’s kind of left up to interpretation.
