Thief

Thief

I watched this because Dennis Lehane mentioned it in his intro to a Parker novel. Do NOT waste your time on this film.

The very first thing my wife said, at the beginning of the movie, was, "That music is annoying." It sure was - some pointless pounding techno beat. The styles changed over the course of the movie, but it never got any better. Usually, movie music doesn't come out and strike you as downright bad. I think the music was credited to Tangerine Dream, but if so they must have had an off-day.

"Introduce me to that big blonde, she's got a touch of Tuesday Weld..." sings Donald Fagen in "New Frontier." Tuesday Weld appears in this film in a completely pointless role. She and James Caan get married and adopt a child. Both are utterly pointless and disposable, which might tell you just how bad this movie is. Willie Nelson appears in a pointless and disposable role.

There is one story here, and a pretty limp and lifeless one. James Caan pulls a job and has to go up against Mr. Big. Will he come out on top, or will he die in the rain? Who cares?
