I’ll let you in on a little life secret: anytime you see me after 6:45am, there’s a 100% chance I’ve said the following quote in the mirror that day.

“Here's a little fucking cheat sheet for ya: it's never gonna be me, and you, and your sista', and Shyne, fucking playin' 'House' up there! Alright? You got it? Get that in your fuckin' head.”

Also - who cast John Hamm as an FBI agent. There are no FBI agents that handsome. Fire that casting director.

I think I spent too much time thinking of this as purely an indictment of capitalism vs. an ode to free spirits. At the end, it’s clear it’s a good mix of both.

Also serves as a painful portrayal of what it means to be an aging member of the working class in a country with a non-existent social safety net. These colors don’t run 😩. TY for the performance, Frances :)

Also Dave rules - hope he’s doing well wherever he is.

The last line of the movie explains the title (“But you can ask anybody from my neighborhood, and they'll just tell you this is just another Bronx tale.”)

Longfellow Deeds lives a peaceful life as a Pizzeria owner in Mandrake Falls, NH. That is, until news of a distant relative’s death turns his life upside down. Thrust into the limelight, Longfellow must navigate a new city, a budding relationship, and the social pressures that accompany his windfall inheritance.

Released to critical acclaim in 2002, Mr. Deeds can teach us all a thing or two about love, friendship, and the pursuit of happiness. I’ll rate this 4.5 stars.
