They did an immaculate job stylizing, shooting, and creating the perfect set for this movie. Often in film, raw emotion gets overshadowed by weirdly sterile environments for me. But everything about Happy Together felt incredibly personal and I love seeing two Asian men in love, even in toxic relationships. It gives me hope we can work toward a better narrative in media that portrays Asian men as rightfully desired and humanized. The soul and imperfection in the main characters is something that makes them relatable for me. But can we have something similar to this in 2021 with an actual healthy romance? thx.
A lot of people have said this is their new favorite Pixar movie, but I might make a bolder claim by saying this... Soul (2020) is worthy of a spot in my Top 10 films of all time.
I didn't care for Inside Out all that much, it was fine, but nowhere close to the level of this movie. The representation is top notch, the pacing is incredible, and the humor is never misplaced in this heartfelt story of Joe…
Literally the most creative and original thing I've ever seen
And yet... if Hereditary, The Handmaid's Tale, Frances Ha, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark, all played at the same time on different screens in a dark room, it would feel like this.
