Before we get into the actual film, I want to discuss getting to it.

I had to travel in order to watch this film. It wouldn’t be playing until either very late January or early February. This was one film that I wanted to experience in a theater. So myself, my boyfriend, & two of our friends traveled up to DC and watched this in a VERY artsy and aesthetically pleasing theater. There were so many gay couples there. It made me that much more excited to watch the movie. Not to mention, it was the most pleasant crowd that I’ve ever watched a movie with. So a special shoutout to Landmark E-Street Cinema and the crowd that witnessed the 1:00 showing of this film with me.

This easily became my most anticipated film of the year. I couldn’t give you a reason as to why, either. Was it the score? The award buzz? The actors? The cinematography? The director? The overall feel of the film? The immensely positive reactions from fellow movie lovers? Or maybe it was the fact that I got to see another LGBTQ+ story unfold on a big screen. I was so scared for this as the film started. What if I didn’t actually like it? What if the film doesn’t live up to the hype? Once those credits started, it was settled that those small fears that I had were pointless. This movie was absolutely beautiful. Everything about it. Like oh my gosh. It’s very difficult to try and put this movie into words. The music was absolutely incredible, the acting was one point (Get ready for your Oscar, Timmy).

So many moments in this movie absolutely took my breath away. Whether it was a single shot or an entire monologue: it’s pretty easy for me to say that this is definitely one of the best movies of 2017 and I am so glad I traveled to see this movie.

Now, I’m gonna try to stop weeping internally. Wish me luck!!
