Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused ★★★★

an unforgettable night.

who knew a film all about drugs and getting intoxicated could be such a medicine to a senior year deprived graduate like myself?

and no, i’m not saying everyones high school experience has to mirror one character or relationship in linklater’s dazed and confused. lord knows mine was vastly different and involved much less ass whooping. but i think we can all agree that this film very accurately captures the true nature of what it’s like to be a kid. the story subjects you to literally every grade of high school, watching teens of all ages step outside their circles, try new things and overall just vibe because it’s the summer. and if you watch these characters interacting as someone on the outside looking in like i did you really get one hell of a trip down memory lane out of it.

honestly richard linklater should be the only person allowed to make coming of age movies at this point. he just gets it. no one else gets it the way he does, no one else’s filmmaking so powerfully radiates this much youthful exuberance. and i love that he tricks you into thinking existentially in certain scenes too, like when the “nerds” are talking about the present being simply an overglorified preamble to the future.

and did i mention this movie is infinitely quotable too? fuckin hell man. alllllriiight alright alright.

i don’t know if any of this is making sense. i’m high as giraffe balls. but this movie really rocks even if it is just discount stoner american graffiti its still a great film
