Suddenly, Last Summer 1959
Cray cray! Main character was a drag though. What gives this film its strength is clearly Williams’ writing. Though the actors are infamously strong, they’re more of slates or empty molds, not auteurs in and of themselves— that wasn’t really a thing in the era, but I wish they had more life. Some of the acting feels more suited to theatre, but maybe I’m just saying that because it’s in black and white.

Like reading Mayakovsky! A potent tincture against capitalism. :)
Perfectly cast, well shot, and very exciting to watch. One critique would be that sometimes, its efforts to subvert feel too extreme, almost forced, and result in the unexplainable (the kind that builds an unproductive frustration in the viewer, rather than a creative spark). -

Modern music wasn’t the right selection in many cases— could have done better with something like John Maus
Mistreatment of WW2 b-plot was almost offensive— 2 other directions could have been more effectively taken: 1) the college kids’ ignorance could have been played up as criticism (in that case, don’t have the last scene be that classic radio bit— or at least have the characters react indifferently to it) OR 2) play up the political differences b/w the Beats— everyone…
