Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Terrifically chilling portrait of a serial killer, works best when the murders aren't shown onscreen but the camera shows the after-scene of the crime. Career-making performance from Michael Rooker.

    Red Dragon

The only reason Red Dragon exists is to make up for the lack of Hopkins in Manhunter. But it lacks the style and craft of that film, while Hopkins' Lecter is inferior to Cox's.

Beautifully animated but lacks the wit and invention of prime Pixar and serves as proof that that brand doesn't guarantee unrivaled quality. Fails to subvert fairy tales in a way that hasn't already been done by recent Disney animated films or the Shrek films (oh it pains me so to negatively compare a Pixar film to the Shrek 'franchise').

    Dark City

Like a Gilliam-esque version of The Matrix, which it actually predates and yet feels less dated without the trenchcoat mafia aesthetic.
