There is a lot that I loved about this adaptation, but here’s just one thing: the way Gerwig handled Jo’s rejection of Laurie’s marriage proposal finally made that choice make sense. When Jo is talking about it after the fact with Marmee, wondering if maybe she should have said yes, Marmee asks if Jo loves Laurie and Jo replies with something like, “Well, I miss the feeling of being loved.” And Marmee says, “That’s not the same thing.” Is it just me, or did y’all feel that in your bones??
