Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★

A really good film let down by a weird, out of place ending. The story is terrific, tense and compelling while still maintaining a lot of the Tarantino humour he’s known for. It was also really interesting because it seemed to me like Tarantino was trying to make the least Tarantino film possible. The characters are very well written, especially Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio). It all falls apart in the final five minutes with an insane ending that tonally doesn’t mesh with the rest of the film. Performance wise, everyone is on top form. DiCaprio and Brad Pitt (Who plays Rick’s stunt double and loyal friend) are the standouts while Margot Robbie is terrific as Sharon Tate. The cinematography is phenomenal and I especially like how Spahn Ranch was meant to be appear completely menacing.
