Mads Ej’s review published on Letterboxd:
People often seem to hate on superhero movies and especially on this one, so I never got around to it, but it sounded like it tried something new so I had to check it out eventually and the critics were right, it is a pretty terrible movie.
It felt like it tried to be a horror movie, but it didn’t go far enough with it and only rarely showed the teens seeing something, screaming and then run away.
Since the characters are teens the movie also tried to be a teen movie, which I guess it succeeded at, but in all the most annoying ways. The characters were all annoying and they either acted bitchy, like children or cringey sad teens. I really don’t feel we got to know the characters that well either and I don’t see why I should care about them or the weak villain. They were also not really that well acted and their accents sounded terrible too.
We also didn’t see much of their superpowers before the ending, since every time they were about to use them, the adult made them stop and go to their room.
The special effects were not so special either and it looked very low budget at times, while I also think it was hard to see what was going on in the dark scenes.
The story didn’t go anywhere for most of the movie and I got very bored.
It is crazy how many times the movie got delayed before it finally released and I feel bad for all the fans who waited years for this mess.
