James Cameron sanitising his own IP with them there big bucks™.
A Mercury CGI upgraded copper version of Arnie, who's perpetually angry because he's sentient skynet thermometer innards, is sent back for his robot overlords. A young John Connor is absolutely fucked with the odds stacked against him and his mum trapped in a nut clinic. Thankfully our favourite reprogrammed T-800 Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the case with his new clothes, boots and motorcycle.
I'm no expert on quantum physics, but I'm fairly certain the acts in this film would have rendered the story in the first film non-existent, and thus this second film also wouldn't have existed. We end up stuck in a time-travel film/non film limbo, surely. But what the fuck do I know? I'm also completely ignoring that extended cut alternate ending, because for absolute fuck sake.
There's no doubt that this is a great action film, with the Cameron explosions, elaborate set pieces, one-liners and fire reflected in aviators, but it's a sort of family friendly actioner that couldn't even hope to hold a candle to the grit and low-budget slashery scuzz of the original.
