The ending gave me chills through my spine. Angelopoulos’s cinema is just so fucking perfect to me, he manages to put together a lot of themes that count a lot to me (immigration, human suffering, lower classes) with his very personal, contemplative style filled with allegories that I love so much.
One of the best Palms I’ve ever seen, and Theo Angelopoulos might have become one of my favorite directors of all time

Aguirre, the Wrath of God 1972
After I saw the first three minutes I already knew this was a massive piece of art: the shot of Machu Picchu accompanied by that soundtrack was amazing, and it reminded me some later works by Terrence Malick for how it depicts pantheism and the relationship between God, men and nature.
Aguirre is a very spot on character, a man who doesn't want to surrender to Nature and decides to deal with an impossible challenge, behaving in a megalomanic and delusional way (especially in the tremendous ending).A stunning movie.
