The songs were great. The dancing was stupendous.
But this one suffers from miscasting. I feel like I missed out on how great it could have been with any of the Broadway or West End casts instead. Barbra Streisand does her besr, and she certainly isn't bad by any means. She's incredibly charismatic and knows what she's doing. But she's just too young for the part and doesn't have the fragility or vulnerability under the bluster that I suspect Dolly Levi needs to really make you root for her. Add in the fact that Walter Matthau comes across as his usual gruff and grumpy perfection in a part that could use a bit more charm and a better singing voice, and it just doesn't work for me.
