This makes me want to retroactively lower my rating for I Spit On Your Grave. While Abel Ferrera's cult classic does have plenty of shlocky grindhouse fun to be had, it is a much more sensitive film than nearly anything else in the rape-and-revenge genre. It's violent but not offensively-so, and more importantly, it captures the mercifully brief inciting incident with a sympathetic eye. I also admire this movie's attempts to actually portray the trauma…

GOD. This was fucking disturbing. The effects in this film are absolutely incredible. Such insane, demented, violently gross creations of a mind I would not want to explore. Hellraiser feels like a night terror or a hallucination. It's everything you could want from an 80's horror film that isn't afraid to go all out.

Instantly a new favorite. I love werewolves and practical effects so naturally this movie felt like it was made for me. It absolutely holds up, from the eerie cinematography to the humor to the performances-the thing most overlooked in the horror genre.
What a movie.
