Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★½

I was intoxicated when I came out of the cinema last night. I don´t need a straight plot if what I see keeps me observant, curious and makes me laugh. All this I got here, and more. Leonardo di Caprio and Brad Pitt are a dream-team! Timothy Olyphant in a little side role was a little candy on top for me. I generally like movies about the world behind the scenes in general. Here it´s just brilliant how Tarantino refers to different genres and movies, by changing them a little, but only as much that one can recognize them and so much that they are not just cheap copies. The 1969 atmosphere is being captured nicely and one perceives how much fun Tarantino had with this production. I love how he created certain atmospheres but still surprises with the development of the situations (like for example on the movie ranch). During the movie I thought a few times that this is not a movie for a very large audience. One should either be US-citizen or be interested in US-American (pop) culture or at least be a movie lover. Otherwise one might ask: What dos the director wants to tell me? I had a lot of fun and “once upon a time … in Hollywood” lifted my spirits.
