The Two Popes

The Two Popes ★★★½

These Oscar bait films are getting better and better these days. This actually was a super solid film in terms of acting, writing, and finding ways to keep the average viewer interested on a subject that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. I personally thought it was interesting, but could have maybe dug a little bit deeper into the organized religion aspect of Catholicism. I am not really one to talk about that though to be honest.

While I love City of God and find the 2nd act sequence that mimics the style of that film pretty solid, it is very jarring and further makes the pacing of this quite rough. Overall, this is a solid film that does make you ponder some surface level stuff about organized religion, and I think it does what it sets out to do at a slightly above average way.
