While films like Punishment Park and Cannibal Holocaust came before it, there's no doubt that The Blair Witch Project firmly cemented the found footage genre into culture as we know it. The innovation and showmanship on display here is nothing short of praiseworthy, and would go forth to influence an entire fucking sub-genre!
Taking a deeper look into this film really makes you appreciate it that much more. Three unknown actors are uprooted and thrown into a forest looking forβ¦
Didn't really have many expectations going in but certainly didn't expect to be emotionally demolished. Very Kaufman-esque. Anthony Hopkins gives an all time performance and in any other year he'd have Best Leading Actor in the bag. I'll never recover from this.
