Evan B’s review published on Letterboxd:
you can just tell when a group of people has genuinely poured a lot of love & thought & care into a project that could’ve been soulless and uninspired in different hands, and this is one of those cases when the creative spirit of the filmmakers shines through nice and bright. 💕
such a vibrant, entertaining ride from start to finish, packed with fast-paced jokes, a litany of satisfying set-ups & payoffs, and a smart story that heightens & externalizes the interior emotion of its characters through metaphor in an exaggerated way that animation does best. it really goes all the way with its over-the-top, imaginative spectacle for the sheer joy of it, and it’s hard not to be swept up in that infectious mode of fun, especially when complemented with sincere, heartfelt character work.
I hope the future holds many more animated films like this one that are just as exuberant, appealing, well-written, expressive, artistically inspired!! 🙏 (and that feature an explicitly Queer protagonist!!!!)
