I wrote and directed this movie, and I think 3 stars is the appropriate rating. Maybe +/- a half star, but the lower or higher you go the more I feel like the rating probably has more to do with the day you’re having than the merits of the movie. And that’s fine, that’s how it works.

Cinematography, score, and lead performances are all pretty undeniable because I had the good sense to find brilliant collaborators and give them space…

Cried just as hard at the ending, even more annoyed with its representation failings than I was two weeks ago, took 12 pages of notes, pretty good afternoon at the picture show.

Predictably gorgeous and eerie, but for the most part I found the writing and general narrative choices all the wrong kinds of in-poor-taste. Bummer!

I think my message to Edgar Wright would be: it’s ok to not make a movie if you don’t have anything to say. There’s no shame in it, plenty of people do it all the time—I’m doing it right now!

I think my message to Edgar Wright’s friends would be: why didn’t you do something?

It absolutely rules that Ridley clearly told Ben, Matt, and Adam (but especially Ben) “Just do, like, kind of a fancy-pants accent when you feel like it, and when you don’t feel like it, just forget it and talk however you want.” Genuinely one of the better directing choices I’ve gotten to witness in a long while.
