oh yeah, I liked the cube
I first watched this in 10 parts on YouTube back in 2011. I then managed to get my hands on a bootleg recording of the film on dvd, which opened with the tail end of an interview with Gene Wilder for “Hanky Panky”. Love the blu-ray transfer.
I find Friedkin’s taste in theatre fascinating— for this to be his narrative debut and a big-time passion project is a trip. It’s a stunning, greasy, miserable affair. I think it was vital to have Pinter there for casting, I don’t think they would’ve gotten Dandy Nichols otherwise.
