Casual moviegoer in love with animation, comedy, and drama.
Should’ve left this one in the annals of nostalgia. The iconic character design and effort into the construction of the Atlantean language continue to impress me, but the shallow character development, total disappearance of Kida in the third act, and uninspired villains bog this movie down big time.
The perfect balance of action, comedy, and childlike whimsicality that would later be seen in My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso is a clear love letter to early 20th century aviation and the spirit of adventure. How could I not enjoy a film about a literal antifascist pig?
