I seem to have a deep love for Macbeth adaptations, first with Fassbender, now Denzel.

And what a performance by Denzel! Watching him portray that reluctance in the beginning before ultimately embracing the peak of madness is thrilling.

Pushed on by Frances McDormand and her willingness to “unsex” herself and Kathryn Hunter’s chilling presence, the movie traps you with its sets and aspect ratio. The score drives it forward. And the cinematography seals it.

What a way to start off the year.

Sadly, the weakest of the Jackass movies. The stunts and pranks don’t land as much as they should. There’s a certain element of chaos and unpredictability that’s missing.

    Still fun though.

The silence chokes you before you’re pushed into the titular moment that captures the tragedy between these two women. It’s executed in such a blunt way, only made truer by the camera work. Fantastic.

(side note: we need more happy LGBTQ+ movies)

Watching this, it’s sad to see what the Rambo franchise quickly became. John Rambo is defined by the suffering he’s survived. Seeing him as a mindless killing machine defeats the whole point of his character.

Sylvester Stallone brings it across with barely a word for the majority of First Blood, and when he does speak, you hear that pain and anguish in his voice. The final monologue? Wow. A memorable performance.
