300 Years of French and Saunders Dragged up all the way from the ocean bed, national treasures Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders are back together this festive season with a special 30th anniversary clip show that's bursting with brand new material, greatest hits, hilarious rarities, and even some never-before-seen footage.
I'm adding this because I'm greedy, there aren't individual pages for all the U.S. French and Saunders compilations. (In both the U.K. and Australia, there seem to be entire Series-by-Series Complete Collections but there's quite a bit missing from the 4 BBC-America packaged up and distributed through Warner Bros.) (20th Century Fox might have been the original distributer for BBC-America's shows, I don't remember: they were the first VHS company to distribute Absolutely Fabulous without any cuts to the music cues, which played entirely uncut for Series 2 when it aired on the Oxygen network somewhere between 2002-2004. There are no Region 1 releases for Series 2 that include the full Madonna reference in "Death," the scene in the kitchen…
Always fun to spend time with Dawn and Jennifer, but it was initially a bit of a disappointment to see that this Christmas special was effectively a clips show of various snippets of their shows from the last thirty years with just a few bits of new material placed within. That said, the new material was pretty good - I especially liked The Handmaiden's Tale sketch and it was fun to see them messing about on the set of Poldark too.
