I keep it 300, like the Romans
300 bitches, where's the Trojans?
In which Zack Snyder finds his calling.
Could be read as fascist propaganda, but like, so could Iron Man, and that's much less abstract in its parallels to the real world. Plus Snyder loves the masculine form so goddamn much that this turns into the most homoerotic comic book movie since Batman & Robin!!
Not that I want to completely overlook the hate (Miller's original intent is obviously still there) but it's framed in such a way that it's easier for me to appreciate for what it is. Our main plot is quite literally a myth within the film itself, and Leonidas exposes contradictions left and right with his incoherent ideology and utterly ridiculous presence.
Consequently, it's hard for me to take serious, and very easy for me to enjoy.
