I really enjoyed this movie. Excellent drama which follows the long term after effects of a school shooting on the family that has to live with the stigma. Looks at several interconnected stories of gun related incidents/culture. Excellent performances from Marcia Gay Harden and Forest Whitaker to name a few.
Gave it four stars the first time I saw it (in 2005?), it hasn't aged well and I think the importance of it -- doing a CRASH-style film around guns -- led me to overrate it
Pretty heavy-handed but still, glad someone tried, and there should be more narratives exploring this issue
BEAST BEAST does it really well
Banaler Film, der sein relevantes Thema durch übermäßige Didaktik, unfokussierte Handlung und billige Regie kolportiert.
Despite its intriguing premise, this earnest anti-gun polemic is too melodramatic to resonate.

This film does for guns what Crash did for racism. It has several different storylines that attempt to illuminate the many ways the guns affect our society. American Gun lacks the style of Crash but makes up for it with some fantastic performances by Marcia Gay Harden and Forest Whitaker. It probably could have benefited from a couple more aspects but as is, this is still an effective/ entertaining picture.

Well told movie about the way guns affect peoples lives after a tragic school shooting. How it affects the gun shop owner, the brother and mother of the shooter, the high school principal, and some of the students at the school. Very well directed as this could easily have come off preachy, but the actors are pretty phenomenal in this. Marcia Gay Harden, Forest Whitaker and Donald Sutherland. Good watch.
