You know you've entered another universe when an Oscar winning actress tells Russell Brand with a straight face to "wash his winky....properly". I almost pissed myself.

TASK #47: A film that is the lowest-rated film in the filmography of an actress that you love!
Technically, this is the lowest-rated film (here on Letterboxd, that is) in the filmographies of two actresses I love: Helen Mirren and Greta Gerwig.
A bland, neutered, and flat attempt at remaking the original Dudley Moore classic, Arthur feels more like a made-for-TV film than it does something that's worthy of a theatrical release (which isn't shocking considering who the director is) and it doesn't help that it wastes a talented cast on mediocre material.
Arthur is an entertaining and occasionally funny comedy but it doesn't come close to being anywhere near as good as the original film. Russell Brand makes for an irritating and unsympathetic lead, most of the humor falls flat and the script could have used a lot of improvement. Fine but nothing memorable at all.
Remember when Russell Brand was a thing? And when Greta Gerwig wasn't?
Thank God times have changed.
I hadn't seen this since 2012 and I recalled finding it surprisingly unoffensive for a remake of one of my favourite comedies and I rated it a generous three stars. However watching it again now I'm taking a half star off it. I found it a bit of a chore this time around, though that may have something to do with the number of advert breaks ITV2 try and squeeze into it. Reminds me why I normally never watch films on commercial channels go out 'live', you just can't get a momentum going with the viewing experience.
"A laugh-out-loud romp. Garner is delicious and the hugely talented Brand nails it."
-Thelma Adams
....
Wait
....
Did she just say?..
Let's take a closer look
"..Garner is delicious"
Yeah.. she just called Jennifer Garner delicious. Of all words she could have used, she chooses delicious.
I actually agree with Thelma's assessment there, but I wouldn't have dared used such an adjective. Thelma Adams, you have just become my hero.
These are the things worth reading the back of a DVD box to find.
Indeed Jennifer Garner came to play in this remake of the 1981 film of the same…
Quick re-watch time courtesy of the wife's obsession with Russell Brand and his unique sense of humor.
A re-imagining of the Dudley Moore classic, I like everyone else who had seen the original was apprehensive of tampering with the late comedy legend's finest film. Moore was a great drunk because he technically was one. Brand on the other hand is a reformed alcoholic and heroin addict so playing this part must have had some resonance with him . Nowhere near as funny as Dud's this does have a lot of charm. Brand is instinctively likable and plays the rich fool with the same exuberance he brought to "Get Him To The Greek". Crazy but with a heart of gold,he's still…
"Every day when you're walking down the street; And everybody that you me-" Holy crap is that Greta Gerwig??
Greta Gerwig starring in this movie and going on to direct Lady Bird and Little Women is one of the true modern examples of a comeback story. Not that she was bad in this movie, or that Arthur really was THAT terrible, it's just the quintessential "cinematic" example of "They had us in the first half, not gonna lie."
From the moment this movie began its opening scene, I knew what kind of film it was gonna be. And it was.... for about forty minutes. Full of weird moments, unfunny jokes, and gags that had not much payoff, I found it…
Honestly, I defy anyone not to like this film...it’s got such a good heart. If you want to smile for almost two hours solid, then this is the film to watch. watch without prejudice and you’ll find a sweet, romantic, funny and wholly enjoyable movie, with excellent lead performances from russell and greta, and a brilliant supporting role from helen mirren. love it!
Watched this at 2:30 am, so my judgment is hazy, but this was much better than I expected.
These stars mostly go to Greta Gerwig who is beautiful and wonderful and makes my heart flutter. I probably enjoyed this movie more than most people if I’m being honest.
