-brilliant casting and cinematography. it's the young Saiorse Ronan, for me, who made the film remarkable but the performances of Knightly and McAvoy are also good.
-love the ending. love the film 💌
No need to ask if this broke my heart because, I mean, of course it did.
Loved Keira Knightley in this role tho, especially after seeing her in "The edge of love"

Had heard about this being one of the top performances in the career of James McAvoy early on, and I'm a big fan of his, so I really wanted to watch this and now it's checked off my list!
The movie requires patience but is driven by a well-created dynamic and honest story, and actually shows the journey of Briony as she learns from the mistakes of her past and tries to atone. I'm glad the ending wasn't a predictable one and they changed it up a little. Keira was good in this too and I was happy to see (even if just a little bit of) Benedict Cumberbatch in this one.
Foremostly, this movie is i m m e n s e in its beauty. The sound design and score is a delight and the way everything is shot is nothing short of gorgeous. The acting is delicate, refined, and stunning. However, I am absolutely ruined because the book is more masterful than the film could ever be, and the ending feels so bombastically wrong because of the medium change. Far be it from me to say how to better make this film, but ten to fifteen minutes at the end with further story extrapolation could have afforded this another full star for me at least.
I should rewatch for a more in depth review but the score from the Dunkirk scene alone just breaks me every time I hear it 😰
